Where is Casa del Playa?
The house is located on the East Cape of Baja, 70 kilometers (45 miles) north east of San Jose del Cabo, less than an hour drive from the San Jose del Cabo airport and 120 kilometers (75 miles) south of the La Paz.

Should I rent a car?
You can take a taxi or bus from the airport but we recommend renting a car as provisions are about a 4 mile drive from the house.

Is it safe to drive in Mexico?
Yes, just watch out for animals wandering in the road. If you see an on coming car with their emergency blinker on, this means caution, animals ahead. We recommend keeping your night travels to only local trips for this reason.

Do I need a passport?
When traveling to Mexico you will need a Passport or a Certified copy of your Birth Certificate (hospital issue is not a certified copy, a certified copy has a raised seal). Beginning December 2006 the new law states all travelers coming into Mexico by air need a Passport. Beginning December 2007 a new law states all travelers by air or land entering Mexico need a Passport. Please check current conditions.

Can I drink the water?
Yes, right from the tap. Casa del Playa receives high quality well water that is regularly tested in San Diego. It's spring water that comes bubbling up at 180 degrees from the source.

Are there bugs?
Surprisingly enough there are few insects, and no mosquitoes.

What does the East Cape of Baja offer?
Sport fishing is the # 1 attraction, big black and blue Marlins. Swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, surfing (south cape or Pacific Ocean side), ATV, hiking, horseback riding, and spa are just a few of the many activities you will find here. The hot springs are one of the items that make this place truly special.

What is the Sea of Cortez like?
Sea temperatures (see table below) range from the 70's in the winter month to the mid 80's in the summer months. The waves are pretty small and the sea is generally calm, however, when the winds kick in the sea can get very choppy.

How big is the house?
The house is around 1,200 sq. ft. There are 2 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. The Master bedroom has a king-size bed and the other bedroom has 2 full beds. The house sleeps 4-6 people comfortably.

Is the house child friendly?
Yes, the house has a fully enclosed yard.

What kind of amenities does the house have?
There is a television (no cable), radio/CD player, washer/dryer, refrigerator, gas stove/oven, blender, the kitchen is fully equipped. There is no phone.

How can I make a phone call?
The least expensive way is to purchase a phone card at any small tienda. There are phones that take these cards at Hotel Buena Vista- about 100 yards from Casa Del Playa.

Where do I find groceries, gas, and the nearest bank?
The large grocery store, Los Chipitos, is 4 miles away in the town of Los Barriles, there are small tiendas much closer. You will find an ATM machine as well as internet cafe in Los Barriles (these machines are frequently out of cash). There are also banks and ATM's in San Jose Del Cabo and La paz. There is a PemMex gas station between Spa Buena Visita and Los Barriles.

How do I rent Casa Del Playa?

All reservations will be done via email casaberryswenson@gmail.com or call (831) 475-7100.

Please remember you must be employed by Barry Swenson Builder at the time of use to receive the employee rate. Employee rate is not transferable.

A $100 deposit is required to hold your reservation. This will be mailed to you upon your return from Baja or if you cancel 30 days or more before Your reservation date.

How much does it cost to stay at Casa del Playa?
$150.00/nightly,

$700.00/weekly,

$1500.00/monthly.

Casa del Playa household rules and requests.

Please: Do not put fish remains in the trash can. The smell is bad for the neighbors and it attracts dogs who then jump the fence and tear open the trash can lids. Best to have your captain take care of it.

Be respectful of neighbors, keep music levels down after 10:00 pm, if not the local police can fine you $50.00 for your first offense.

Turn off air conditioning and fans when you are not home.

If you rent an ATV (quad) watch your speed.

Take out trash cans on Sunday night and bring back in on Monday.

Turn- off stove gas when you leave.

Install wooden poles / window locks when you leave.

If you use the 5 gallon drinking water, get it refilled at Chappitos in Los Barriles. (Let them know that you own the bottle). There is a deposit for the 5 Gallon plastic container.

If you do set up the TV, please put it back in the guest room closet when you leave.

Cover both shower drains with the rubber plugs when you leave, this prevents little visitors from coming up the drain.

Please do not take any household items to another house without returning them.

Casa del Playa PRO TIPS

If you run out of gas for the stove, tell our on site manager, or keep an eye out for the gas tank truck. The gas truck comes by the main road every other day. They will loosen and load the tanks for you. One tank lasts about 3 months.

In case of a hurricane, the gardener will install the plywood door panels. The lag bolts are kept under the sink in the wash room.

If you want daily maid service the charge is around 130-150 pesos. Talk to our local manager and he can line it up for you.
